Where can the system be constructed?

The ATES system can be constructed in practically all aquiferous sand and gravel deposits and limestone. The key factor is the required depth of the borehole needed to reach these subterranean layers.

On the Danish islands of Zealand and Funen, aquiferous limestone can be reached at a drilling depth of 100 metres. Above the limestone layer, there are often layers of sand and gravel, which can also be used for seasonal thermal storage of heat and cold. Most of the underground on the Danish peninsula of Jutland primarily consists of sand and gravel deposits, which can be used for ATES.

A natural solution

A groundwater cooling and heating system works with nature and is therefore subject to the conditions in the underground where it is constructed.

An ATES system is also perfect for use with existing or disused groundwater wells.


Returning the groundwater

The essence of Enopsol’s ATES solution is how the groundwater is pumped up and returned to the underground.

Our comprehensive expertise builds on experience with planning and installation of more 100 wells for more than 30 ATES systems.

To successfully lead the water back to the underground, we have developed entirely new methods and components that protect the groundwater from oxidation.

No impact on drinking water

The wells can be drilled just about anywhere – also in areas of special drinking water interest. Enopsol’s ATES system does not damage the underground, and drilling is carried out by the most experienced well-drilling experts in the country.

Furthermore, the ATES systems are monitored continuously to ensure that there is no negative impact on the groundwater and operations.
